Right-winger Christer Kellgren played five games for the Colorado Rockies in 1981-82. He was best known as a consistent player in the Swedish Elite League.
The native of Goteborg, Sweden joined the Vastra Frolunda club as a 19-year old in 1978-79. He gradually became an important part of the team and scored 20 goals in 36 games in 1980-81. The Rockies signed him as a free agent in May 1981 and convinced him to attend training camp. He experienced difficulty adjusting to the North American game and the smaller ice surfaces in the NHL and was sent to Fort Worth of the CHL.
Kellgren
returned to Sweden after his disappointing experience in North America.
He played two more seasons with Vastra Frolunda and then retired in 1984.Text

Right-winger Willy Lindstrom was an exciting combination of speed and scoring during his eight years in the NHL. He recorded five 20-goal seasons and was very dangerous on the power play. The talented forward was also respected for turning his game up a notch in the post-season.
Born in Grunnis, Sweden, "The Wisp" excelled for five years with Vastra Frolunda. He also spent parts of two seasons on the national team and played at the World Championshios in 1974 and 1975. Lindstrom signed as a free agent with the WHA's Winnipeg Jets in July 1975 and was a top goal scorer for four seasons. In 1976, he was a reserve on Team Sweden at the inaugural Canada Cup.
The clever forward remained on the Jets when they joined the NHL in 1979-80. He recorded four consecutive 20-goal seasons as the young club was one of the fastest in the league. In March 1983, Lindstrom was traded to the Edmonton Oilers for scrappy centre Laurie Boschman. He was a role player on his new squad but recorded 22 goals in 1983-84 and helped the club win two consecutive Stanley Cups in 1984 and 1985.
In October
1985, he was picked up on waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins and scored
24 goals over two seasons. After sitting out the 1987-88 season, he played
two years with Brynas IF Gavle of Sweden before announcing his retirement

Moved to Marlboro, Mass., after his retirement and became a broker with Windham Capital in Boston.Defenseman Tom Mellor came up through the collegiate hockey ranks, playing with Boston College after starring with his local high school team in 1967-68. He joined Boston College in 1968-69 and scored nine goals and 19 points in his 17-game rookie season. He had a great sophomore season, scoring 21 goals and 44 points in 26 games. In his junior year in the NCAA he had 40 points in 25 games for the Eagles. Mellor also played 18 games for the U.S. National Team that season, scoring a goal and five points in international competition.
One of the highlights of Mellor's hockey career occurred in 1972 when he played for the U.S. Olympic Team which brought home a bronze medal from Sapporo, Japan. He also represented his country at the 1972 and 1973 World Championships.
Mellor returned to Boston College for his senior year in 1972-73, taking a year off from school during his international appearances with the U.S. National Team. In 30 games he scored six goals and led the nation with 45 assists. He was also selected to the NCAA East First All-American Team.
In 1973-74 Mellor joined the NHL's Detroit Red Wings, the club that drafted him in the firth round, 68th overall in the 1970 Amateur Draft. He suited up for 25 games with the Red Wings, scoring two goals and six points. He also played in 23 games with the AHL's Virginia Wings as well as a six-game stint in the British League with the London Lions where he had seven points in six games. In 1974-75 he played in one final NHL game with the Red Wings. His career totals were; 26 games played, two goals and six assists. The remainder of the year was spent in Virginia where he had 17 goals and 52 points with the AHL's Wings.
In 1975-76
Mellor played 34 games with Vastra Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League,
scoring eight goals and 16 points. He also suited up for 13 games with
the Toledo Goaldiggers of the IHL, scoring 15 points. He returned for
one final year of pro hockey with the Goaldiggers in 1976-77 where he
averaged a point per game over 75 games. He went out in style, winning
the James Gatschene Memorial Trophy, given to the most valuable player
in the IHL.

Right winger Morris Mott was born and raised in Creelman, Saskatchewan and played his junior hockey in the Saskatchewan Junior League with the Weyburn Red Wings. In the fall of 1965 he moved to Winnipeg and played with the Canadian National Team until 1970. Mott was also a member of Canada's 1968 Olympic bronze medal winning team in Grenoble, France. Other notables on that club included; goalies Wayne Stephenson and Ken Broderick, defensemen Brian Glennie and Marshall Johnston and forwards Danny O'Shea and Gerry Pinder. While living in Winnipeg he received a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Manitoba. He then pursued his education even further, enrolling at Kingston's Queen's University where he obtained his Ph.D in history. It was during that time Mott played two years of OUAA hockey. In February, 1972 Mott was selected by the Calgary-Cleveland in the WHA General Draft. However, in October of that year the NHL's California Golden Seals offered him a contract, which he accepted. "I had expected to go to the minors," Mott recalled. "But the WHA had raided the NHL and the Seals, and that opened up some spots on the roster so I ended up making the team." He played three years with the struggling Oakland-based team before deciding to move to Europe for a year where he played with Vastra Frolunda in Goteborg of the Swedish Elite League in 1975-76.
Mott was
out of hockey in 1976-77, concentrating on the finishing touches of his
doctorate. He was signed to a free agent by the WHA's Winnipeg Jets in
March, 1976 but he played just two games with the club

Jorgen Pettersson had skated six seasons in the Swedish Elite League with Vastra Frolunda before he was finally enticed to cross the Atlantic to take on the NHL.
The enticement came from St. Louis Blues GM Emile Francis. He personally flew to Stockholm to verify that the stylish, speedy Swede was the real deal. Impressed with his disciplined play and puck handling skills, Francis brought him to St. Louis and placed him on a line with Blake Dunlop and Joe Mullen. The fit was right as Pettersson made a mark on the league by registering 73 points in 62 games.
Over succeeding seasons, he continued to develop into a more complete package as an outstanding penalty killer and above-average defensive player who was willing to bump with the opposition. Pettersson's scoring pace remained steady through 1985 when Emile Francis, then the Whalers' GM, brought his former prospect over to Hartford. His stay was short, however, before he was dispatched to the Capitals for a final NHL stint of 55 games.

then decided to return to his native Sweden where he rejoined the Swedish
Elite League for four additional seasons before retiring in 1990-91. text

Michel Picard played his junior hockey with the Trois-Rivieres Draveurs of the QMJHL from 1986 to 1989. During that time, he established himself as a prolific scorer who could back his points up with some tough, physical play.
But in spite of his solid amateur career, he wasn't drafted until the 8th round of the 1989 Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers. He turned pro with the Binghamton Whalers of the AHL in 1989-90. His initial appearance in the minors marked the beginning of a lengthy career as a journeyman winger who was good for spot duty with a variety of NHL clubs, but he never attained permanent post.
Over the eight seasons that followed, Picard picked up low double-digit stints with the Whalers, Sharks, Senators, Blues, Oilers, and Flyers. In each case, his ice time was limited to fourth-line duty as a cog in his teams' defensive wheels. Between NHL stops, he saw duty with the Springfield Indians, the Kansas City Blades, the Portland Pirates, the PEI Senators, Vastra Frolunda in Sweden, the Grand Rapids Griffins, and the Philadelphia Phantoms.
In 2001-02,
Picard decided to try his hand at European hockey again, this time with
the Mannheim Eagles in Germany källa

Christain Ruuttu had just completed his first junior campaign with Assat
Pori in Finland when the Buffalo Sabres selected him 139th overall in
the 1983 Entry Draft. The talented centreman remained in Finland, however,
for three additional seasons of development.
In 1986-87, he finally came to North America to join the Sabres. He made a solid impression at training camp and never looked back. By the end of his first campaign, the solid playmaker had tallied 65 points in 76 games.
In the seasons that followed, Ruuttu continued as a steady performer who was good for plenty of playmaking action accentuated by his usual 14 to 19 goals per year. His stay in Buffalo lasted a total of six campaigns at which time he was traded to the Winnipeg Jets who immediately passed his rights along to the Chicago Blackhawks.
In the Windy City, he put in two solid years but then elected to return to his homeland to skate for HFK Helsinki. After only 20 games in the Finish League, however, he was lured back to the Blackhawks with the 1994-95 campaign underway. By then, however, Ruuttu's offensive production had begun to slide. When winger Murray Craven came onto the trading radar, the Hawks made a grab, sending Ruuttu to Vancouver to complete the season and his NHL career.
From there,
he joined Vastra Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League for one campaign
before returning to Finland where he appeared in parts of three more seasons.
Ruuttu retired from hockey for good in 1999.källa

The Robin Sadler Saga: For Robin Sadler, life in the NHL was less than ideal. Sadler attended Montreal's 1975 training camp, but decided that he did not like the experience after just one week and went home to North Vancouver. He said there was too much pressure on him in pro hockey, and he didn't have any interest in turning pro. He had already signed a three-year, $250,000 contract that included a big signing bonus, but he returned the money, announcing his retirement for the first time in September 1975. Sadler then spent the 1975-76 season playing amateur hockey in Vancouver while earning $250 per week working for a delivery service. He came out of retirement in 1976 to play the 1976-77 season in Sweden, and would later take another shot at North American hockey. After talking to Edmonton coach Glen Sather, he signed a two-year contract with Edmonton (WHA) on June 16, 1977. The deal was worth over $100,000. Sadler, however, left Edmonton training camp in September 1977 after running into issues similar to those he had dealt with two years earlier. He had a 90-minute talk with Edmonton coach Glen Sather and co-owner Nelson Skalbania before deciding to go home to Vancouver. Sather said emotional stress was affecting Sadler's eating habits and he was sorry that Sadler had chosen to leave. In February 1978, Sadler contacted Montreal to express his interest in playing for the Canadiens. He was assigned to Nova Scotia (AHL) in early March 1978, and collected six points in nine games, but quit the team near the end of the season. He returned to Europe for the 1978-79 season and never played North American pro hockey again. In Europe, where he likely experienced a very different sort of atmosphere, he was a top-notch hockey player.

Ulf Sterner made his debut with Tre Kronor when he was only 17 years and 9 months old. He was the national team's youngest rookie of all times. At 15 Sterner was accepted onto a second division club and soon local fans were spreading the word about a speedy young virtuoso who could sneak through a bunch of men and score a goal.
He first appeared with Tre Kronor in a friendly game against Czechoslovakia at Johanneshof on November 12, 1959. The Swedish team won the game 11-3. The young Sterner scored his first goal-the first of what would be many more. What is remembered is that in the late 1950s and early 1960s, Ulf Sterner, along with Sven "Tumba" Johansson, Nils Nilsson and Ronald Petersson, was one of Sweden's most popular hockey players and an international star. It was Sterner who invented the famous fake 'stick-skate-stick' maneuver.
In Sterner's opinion, he scored his most memorable goal against Canada at the 1962 World Championship in Colorado Springs, bringing the score to 3-0. On March 15, 1963, Sweden defeated Canada 4-1 with Sterner getting a hat-trick. The crowd was elated and Sweden's aged King Gustav VI jumped up and applauded like a schoolboy. After the game, Sterner and Tumba Johansson went into the stands to meet the monarch and receive his royal congratulations. The Swedes appeared to have the world title sewn up, but they still had to get one more point in the last game against the Czechs. The last day of the tournament was the most tense and exciting, but the Swedes lost and the gold medal went to the Soviet team.
Ulf Sterner was Europe's (and Sweden's) first player to join the NHL at a time when the League consisted of six great clubs-the Montreal Canadiens, the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers.

wife Pia is a hockey coach, too. This hockey family lives on a small farm
near Carlstad, where Sterner has four horses. His horses have regular
names as well as nicknames for Sterner's former teammates and friends.
One of the horses once smashed Sterner's nose and was nicknamed 'Alexander
Ragulin' because it was as strong as the famed Russian defenseman. Sterner's
connection to his hockey past remains as powerful as ever.text
